6 Things Korean Women Do at 47 (None of Them Genetic)

Research published in the Journal of Gerontology found that after 50, skin cells can take more than ten extra days to reach the surface and shed. This weekly five-minute ritual helps clear what builds up on top — without acids or harsh scrubbing.

One

The Ten-Day Problem

In young adults, a skin cell takes about 20 days to reach the surface and shed. Past 50, that process can take more than ten days longer, and it continues to slow with age.

Your skin is still renewing. It just isn't shedding at the same pace it used to.

Two

Dull Isn't Always Pigment. Sometimes It's Buildup.

As turnover slows, corneocytes grow larger and hold onto each other more tightly. The surface becomes less even, so light doesn't reflect off it the way it once did.

What looks like dull or tired skin can simply be a layer of dead skin cells sitting on the surface.

What a Korean Spa Actually Does

No machine, peel, or needles.

Apply a thin layer to dry skin and leave it on for five minutes. As it sits, the opaque cream gradually turns into a clear oil. Once it's clear, gently roll it away with your fingertips and rinse with lukewarm water.

Five minutes, once a week.

Four

Acids Do More Than Remove Dead Skin

Acid exfoliants work by lowering the skin's pH and loosening the bonds between surface cells. They can be effective, but frequent exfoliation can also leave some skin feeling dry, tight, or sensitized.

Your skin's surface is also home to a microbial community involved in barrier function. For skin that already feels more reactive with age, gentler exfoliation can make a difference.

No acid, no grit — the cream does the lifting.

Five

Why It's Called “Microbiome Renewing”

Lactobacillus ferment lysate appears in the top third of the ingredient list, rather than near the bottom with trace ingredients.

Ferment lysates are an ingredient class studied for their role in supporting skin barrier function. And because the formula contains no exfoliating acids, the approach is simple: remove surface buildup without relying on a peel.

377 Reviews. 4.8 Out of Five.

Eighty percent of reviewers give it five stars. And again and again, reviewers mention how gentle it feels.

For an exfoliating treatment, that's the part worth paying attention to: skin feels smoother afterward, without the sting people often associate with exfoliation.

What “microbiome renewing” actually means

The formula is built around Lactobacillus ferment lysate, which sits in the top third of the ingredient list. Ferment lysates are an ingredient class studied for their role in supporting skin barrier function. There are no exfoliating acids in the formula.

Why wait until it turns clear?

The cream starts opaque and gradually turns into a clear oil as it works on the surface. When you can see your skin through it, the jojoba oil has loosened the buildup and it is ready to roll away. Rolling early means less comes off.

Can I use this with retinol?

Use them on different nights rather than the same one. This is a weekly step, so most people use the mask on a night they skip their retinol and return to their usual routine the following evening.

How is this different from a scrub?

A scrub removes buildup with abrasive particles. This removes it with jojoba oil and the friction of your own fingertips, so there are no hard edges against the skin. The measured irritation score was 0.00.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

The formula contains no acids or retinoids. As with any product used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, check the full ingredient list with your doctor before starting.

It clears without stripping

Cell turnover slows with age, which means dead skin can stay on the surface longer. Exfoliation helps remove that buildup, but it doesn't have to mean acids or scrub particles. This formula uses jojoba oil as part of a gentler, acid-free approach.

Clinically tested, not just claimed

In a human application test, pore impurities decreased by 95.36% after a single use, with an irritation score of 0.00.
